Awards for Digital Media faculty and student travel to UT Austin
The UT Austin|Portugal Digital Media Program is pleased to offer three categories of mobility grants to help fund the stay of faculty and students at our Portuguese partner institutions wishing to come to the University of Texas at Austin.
1. Sabbatical fellowships for Digital Media faculty
These awards help support one semester of teaching and research at the University of Texas at Austin for Digital Media faculty based in Portugal.
Eligibility is open to personnel at our Portuguese partner institutions who have the rank of assistant professor or higher, as well as to researchers participating in our FCT-funded R&D projects.
Fellowships are available for the fall 2013 semester. Application deadline: at least two months before intended arrival.
2. Semester fellowships for Digital Media PhD students
These awards supplement funds available from FCT for one semester of study and research at UT Austin for students in the UT Austin|Portugal-associated doctoral programs in Digital Media at the New University of Lisbon and the University of Porto.
UT-based support includes help with the application and visa processes, and the selection of courses. FCT may provide travel and a living stipend in addition to tuition up to €5000 per year. Currently, graduate tuition costs at UT are approximately €7060 per semester for a student taking the normal 9 credit full-time load. UT may help fund some of the tuition that exceeds the €5000 from FCT, for one semester of enrollment.
Students must be available to attend a full semester (equivalent to three classes) of courses at UT Austin (typically mid-August through mid-December for the fall semester and early January through mid-May for the spring semester).
Fellowships are available for the fall 2013 semester. Application deadlines for fall 2013: May 10 for students intending to enroll in courses; June 1 for visiting researchers.
3. Exploratory visits by Digital Media PhD students
These awards support short visits at UT Austin for students in the UT Austin|Portugal-associated doctoral programs in Digital Media at the New University of Lisbon and the University of Porto.
Students will spend their time meeting with faculty advisors, visiting classes, exploring research opportunities and planning for possible long-term enrollment at UT Austin.
Support includes airfare and housing expenses for up to seven days.
Exploratory visits will typically last one week. Application deadline: at least five weeks before intended arrival.
To better prepare for a productive visit, exploratory visitors must contact UT Austin-Portugal Digital Media Director Sharon Strover
