Free workshop will offer training in essential startup skills, June 5-6 in Lisbon.

The UT Austin|Portugal Digital Media Program will offer a free, intensive entrepreneurial boot camp in Lisbon on June 5-6, 2014. Approximately 15-20 participants working in teams of 2-6 people will spend one and a half days bringing products through the stages of ideation, design, prototyping, and pitching. The program will be led by two accomplished entrepreneurs from the Austin and San Francisco start-up scenes, both with extensive experience in diverse aspects of digital media. Guests from the local entrepreneurial community in Lisbon will join them.

The workshop will be a rigorous experience composed of several stages. Participants will:

  • Develop an idea, assess its commercial potential, design and build a prototype, and develop a pitch
  • Receive feedback on products and pitches
  • Make revisions before final presentations
  • Present products to members of the local venture capital community

Michael AgustinAt the conclusion of the boot camp, members of the local venture capital community will view and respond to each team’s presentation. While the program will emphasize time management and scheduling, participants will have some opportunities for informal networking as well.

Boot camp facilitators include Michael Agustin and Lane Becker. Michael is the co-founder of game design engine maker Game Salad and most recently of Weaver, which produces an innovative visual storytelling application. Lane is co-founder of online customer service community platform Get Satisfaction and of user experience design firm Adaptive Path. He also co-authored New York Times bestseller Get Lucky: How to Put Planned Serendipity to Work for You and Your Business.

The Digital Media Entrepreneurial Boot Camp will take place at the Rectorate Building of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The program can recommend hotels for participants coming from outside the Lisbon area.

The UT Austin|Portugal Digital Media Program is a collaborative effort between the University of Texas at Austin and leading Portuguese universities, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
