SUMMARY:2019 New Space Atlantic Summit
DESCRIPTION:Space is today\, unquestionably\, an infrastructure for daily life\, contributing to the wellbeing and success of society and the economy\, supporting businesses in many different sectors: agriculture and fisheries\, infrastructure monitoring\, urban development\, defence and security\, shipping\, environmental monitoring and sustainable green development\, banking\, communication\, to name but a few. As the space sector evolves\, new opportunities develop to address emerging needs of these different sectors. The digital transformation is imposing dramatic changes in all sectors\, and by targeting faster time to market and time to orbit\, and reduction in costs\, activities in space can accelerate the added value that it can bring to business. The ultimate goal is to promote and enable the emergence of new markets and the growth of skilled employment in diverse areas of our economies. \nIn the context of the evolution of the remit of space and the role of Space Agencies from pure agencies to partners\, facilitators\, mediators\, brokers and enablers\, the 2019 New Space Atlantic Summit\, in Santa Maria\, on June 21-22 will address the take up of new opportunities for the space and other sectors. \nThe Portuguese Space strategy\, “Portugal Space 2030”\, and the newly founded Portuguese Space Agency “Portugal Space” will provide context and inspiration for a wide range of topics that will be addressed by experts over several discussion panels. Emerging processes and products to boost the exploitation of space data and signals through space-based and space-enabled services and applications will be particularly addressed in a way to contribute to new services\, such as autonomous shipping and environmental sustainability\, together with the development\, construction and operation of space infrastructures (mini-\, micro- and nano-satellites and a spaceport). \nThis 2019 New Space Atlantic Summit follows the main conclusions of the 1st summit in May 2018 in Lisbon\, which brought together new actors and active players in Europe in the area of New Space. It is organized by Portugal Space in collaboration with the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation\, the Atlantic International Research Centre – AIR Centre and the European Space Agency (ESA). \nFor more information please download this document with the Preliminary Program.

SUMMARY:Immersive Training in Advanced Computing - Scientific Visualization
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to get more from your data than simple charts? Spend three days with Texas Advanced Computing Center’s visualization experts and learn how to generate rich\, informative visualizations for your simulation results and data analyses. Get started with VisIt and Paraview\, learn the basics of developing interesting and worthwhile geographic and information visualizations. \n  \nWithin the framework of the UT Austin Portugal Program\, an online scientific visualization training organized by TACC and relying on remote and local monitors\, is open to the Portuguese scientific community directly from the premises of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto! With TACC’s area leader Paul Navrátil\, and researchers Gregory Abram\, Anne Bowen and João Barbosa\, this immersive training will explore topics such as: \n– Vis Landscape (Data/Sci/Info)\n– Understanding Data and Tools/ Visualization Best Practices\n– Color Theory\n– Parallel Visualization/ Remote Collab Vis\n– Hands-On: Sci Vis with Paraview Basic Tutorial\n– Linux/TACC Basics\n– Paraview (scripting\, Animation Panel and extra topics)\n– Conceptual Vis\n– Introduction to Unity \nThe event will be held from June 11 to 13\, from 15.00 to 22.30 and hosted by Ariel Guerreiro\, from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP). On June 14\, the event will take place from 14:30 to 18:15. \n\n  \nTarget Audience\nThis immersive training intends to introduce participants to some of the most current graphical analysis and visualization tools of the methodologies developed and used at TACC. \nIt aims to reach a target audience of several scientific areas and will include application exercises being taught jointly with various international institutions. \n  \nRegistration\nParticipation is free but limited to 20 participants for the entire duration of the course. Selection will be made by order of registration. \nPlease note that participants registering for the 3-day workshop are also entitled to register for an exclusive hands-on session on Unity (intermediate level). The session will take place on June 14 and will also be organized by TACC with the support of FCUP. A minimum number of 8 participants is required to run the session.  \n\nRegistration is now closed.\n  \nRequirements\nParticipants must bring their own laptop with WI-FI connection. \nParticipants need to ensure the prior installation of Winscp and Putty (if using Windows)\, (preferably with access to Eduroam network). \nRefreshments will be provided to all participants between 18:15 and 19:15. \n  \nPreliminary Program \n  \n\n\n\n\nMonday\nTuesday\nWednesday\nThursday\nFriday\n\n\n14:30 – 15:00\n\n\n\n\nOpening Session\n\n\n15:00 – 16:30\n\nIntro / Vis Landscape (Data/Sci/Info)\nUnderstanding Data and Tools / Visualization on Best Practices\nHuman-Centered Design\nHands-on:\nIntermediate Unity\n\n\n16:30- 16:45\n\nBreak\nBreak\nBreak\nBreak\n\n\n16:45-18:15\n\nLinux / TACC Basics\nHands-On: Paraview (scripting\, Animation Panel and extra topics)\nIntroduction to Immersive and Interactive Visualization Technologies\nHands-on:\nIntermediate Unity\n\n\n18:15-19:15\nBreak & Refreshments\n\n\n19:15-20:45\n\nHands-On: Sci Vis with Paraview Basic Tutorial)\nParallel Visualization / Remote Collab Vis\nHands-On: Introduction to Unity\n\n\n\n20:45-21:00\n\nBreak\nBreak\nBreak\n\n\n\n21:00-22:30\n\nColor Theory\nConceptual Vis\nUX Design\n\n\n\n\n  \nIn Portugal\, this event is organized by the UT Austin Portugal Program and the Area of Advanced Computing\, with the support of the Faculty of Sciences from the University of Porto. \nFor additional queries and information\, contact us at events@utaustinportugal.org   \n
