|Institution||Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon|
|Key Words / Areas of Interest||Medical microwave imaging and monitoring, signal processing, machine learning modelling, biomedical engineering, women’s health.|
|Expertise Sought||I am searching for partners at UT Austin with similar or complementary research interests to mine to propose a truly innovative project which will ultimately contribute to improved diagnosis and therapeutic applications and/or devices, specially those regarding signal and image processing, electromagnetics and/or machine learning.|
I am an award winning researcher with a significant record of peer-reviewed publications and funded European grants. I am the first doctorate researcher in Portugal who completed a PhD in the area of microwave medical imaging, and initiated the first research efforts in this area at a national level. I was also the youngest COST Action chair ever, with COST Action TD1301 (Development of a European-based Collaborative Network to Accelerate Technological, Clinical and Commercialisation Progress in the Area of Medical Microwave Imaging). I currently am an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon, Portugal, developing microwave imaging techniques to detect and classify breast cancer as well as metastasised axillary lymph nodes. I have other research interests which cover machine learning modelling techniques (e.g. closed-loped anaesthesia control) and more general biomedical engineering topics. I thrive continuing education and keeping updated by regularly meeting peers in area.
