Webinar #1: Linking GitOPS towards fast innovation over BigHPC

The BigHPC project is bringing together innovative solutions to improve the monitoring of heterogeneous High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures and applications, the deployment of applications and the management of HPC computational and storage resources. It aims as well to alleviate the current storage performance bottleneck of HPC services. In order to keep all development tasks tracking in a common path, some good practices are needed to get a shorter development life cycle and provide continuous delivery and deployment with software quality.
GitOPS is a way to implement the continuous deployment and software quality best practices. Deploy faster and more often, easy and fast error recovery, easier credential management, well documented deliveries with complete history of every change made to the system and share knowledge between teams with great commit messages. These are some examples of the advantages in adopting a GitOPS framework solution. As a result, everybody would be capable of reproducing the thought process of changing infrastructure and also easily find examples on how to set up new systems.
In this work we are creating the git workflow being adopted for application development and the tools that we are joining together to answer the three components of GitOPS: infrastructure as code, merging changings together and deployment automation. We will show the technical capabilities and advantages of using this approach, keeping developers focused on the continuous development of the software and infrastructure management with the IT operations team, adopting good practices and pursuing fast innovation delivery.
About the speaker:
Samuel Bernardo is a software Engineer at the Laboratório de Instrumentação e Física Experimental de Partículas (LIP) in Portugal. Graduated from Lisbon University with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Samuel is finishing his Master dissertation. Currently working on BigHPC and SQAaaS platforms development and in several national and European projects. Also an open-source contributor for several years supporting the community and free software.
About the moderator:
Bruno Antunes is a research manager and product developer for Wavesys at Wavecom. He obtained the Electric and Computer Engineering degree, 5 years BSc, from the University of Coimbra. He concluded the curricular component of the Computer Networks and Communication Services MSc from the University of Minho, with the outcome of its MSc pre-thesis ”Modular Platform for Wireless Communications based on Open Source Software” leading to the launch of the Wavesys multi-radio platform. He is currently attending the PhD in the MAP-tele Doctoral Programme in Telecommunications. Prior to the current functions he also worked as an external consultant at Wavecom for the development and launch of the Wavesys multiradio platform and after that with a mobility scholarship from Wavecom at INOVA-RIA. Since January of 2016 he assumed tasks of R&D and R&D management at Wavecom in several funded projects, such as Wavesys, HiperWireless, MareCom, Mobilizador 5G, 5GPerfecta and BigHPC, while continuing to support the implementation and installation of the Wavesys radios.
