Strengthening research collaboration through targeted mobility

Scientific mobility programs have long been a hallmark of the UT Austin Portugal Program. Funded research stays allow researchers – including PhD and Master’s students – from Portuguese institutions to immerse themselves in campus life, collaborate closely with leading faculty and experts, access cutting-edge research facilities, and soak up the unique Hook ’em Horns spirit that defines UT Austin’s vibrant academic and research community.

Mobility remains a cornerstone of the Program’s mission in Phase 4. By enabling researchers to work alongside leading UT faculty, the Program invests not only in individual skills and careers but also in the long-term sustainability of the UT Austin Portugal partnership.

Through this instrument, researchers affiliated with Portuguese institutions undertake temporary research placements at UT Austin, working directly with UT Austin research groups in areas 

Placements typically range from short- to medium-term periods, depending on the objectives of each call and the nature of the research activities. They provide an opportunity for both early-stage and senior researchers to:

• Immerse themselves in a vibrant research environment
• Access cutting-edge research labs and state-of-the-art research
• Expose themselves to international collaboration and networks (with repercussions on their scientific reputation)
• Establish collaborative relationships beyond the internship
• Generate scientific outputs with UT Austin faculty and researchers
