The UT Austin Portugal Program invited faculty, researchers, and Master’s or PhD students affiliated with Portuguese institutions to pursue two- to three-month research internships at UT Austin, between September 15 and December 31, 2023.

Am I eligible for a research internship under this Call?
Eligible candidates must be Portuguese nationals or permanent residents, hold or be enrolled in a Master’s/PhD program in Portugal, and be affiliated with a Portuguese research institution, university, or R&D-performing company. Applicants must also be allocated to the exchange under a scheme of exclusive dedication.
What is the length of the research internship?
Internships must last a minimum of two months and a maximum of three months, starting no earlier than September 15 and ending no later than December 31, 2023.
What financial assistance is provided?
  • Monthly Allowance: €2,500 (PhD holders) or €1,950 (Master’s/Bachelor’s holders).
  • Travel Allowance: One-off €600 (Master’s and PhD students only).
  • Health Insurance: Up to €500, plus Personal Accident Insurance extendable to the USA.

Total funding for this Call was €90,000. Admitted applicants are given External Researcher status by INESC TEC.

How can I find a potential host at UT Austin?
Applicants must identify a UT Austin faculty host before submitting their EoI. Search UT Austin’s faculty directory, the TACC staff directory (Advanced Computing), or MD Anderson’s staff directory (Medical Physics), or contact the Program’s PT Office for assistance.
How is the EoI assessed?
A panel of three experts per scientific area evaluates the applicant’s scientific curriculum, motivation letter, and recommendation letter(s), in line with Articles 11 and 12 of Regulation no. 913/2021.
Will I sign a financial assistance contract?
Yes. Admitted applicants are granted External Researcher status at INESC TEC and sign a Financial Assistance Contract in compliance with Article 13 of Regulation no. 913/2021.
What is the post-internship report?
At the end of the internship, admitted applicants submit a report (max. two pages) detailing progress against their work plan, including photos and an overall comment from their UT Austin host.
