Phase IV kicked off with a new call for Short-Term Research Internships at UT Austin. This program invited faculty, researchers, and Master’s or PhD students affiliated with Portuguese institutions to pursue three- to six-month research visits.
Invitation Overview
Selected candidates engage with UT Austin’s dynamic academic ecosystem, initiating institutional collaborations and conducting interdisciplinary research in core areas:
- Advanced Computing: Scaling Tools for Energy-Efficient Advanced Computing.
- Nanotechnology: Advancing critical materials discovery.
- Space-Earth Technologies: Exploiting Space technology and data for Earth applications.
- Clean Energy: Addressing climate neutrality through Clean Energy.

Am I eligible for a research internship under this Call?
Eligible candidates must be Portuguese nationals or permanent residents, hold or be enrolled in a Master’s/PhD program in Portugal, and be affiliated with a Portuguese research institution.
What is the length of the research internship?
Internships must last a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months.
What financial assistance is provided?
- From Portugal: €2,100/month allowance + Health Insurance reimbursement.
- From UT Austin: Free housing at AVE Austin North Lamar + Round-trip airfare + SEVIS Fee coverage.
How can I find a potential host at UT Austin?
Applicants must identify a host faculty member. You can search the UT Austin faculty directory or contact Marco Bravo (bravo@austin.utexas.edu) for assistance.
How is the EoI assessed?
A panel of three experts per scientific area evaluates the curriculum, motivation letter, and recommendation letters based on Regulation no. 913/2021.
Will I sign a financial assistance contract?
Yes. Admitted applicants are granted Visiting Researcher status at INESC TEC and sign a formal Financial Assistance Contract.
