Brian A. Korgel is the Director of The University of Texas at Austin Energy Institute and the Rashid Engineering Regents Chair Professor in the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering. He also directs the Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) for a Solar Powered Future (SPF2050), the Nanotechnologies area of the UT Austin Portugal Program at UT, and serves as Associate Editor of the journal, Chemistry of Materials. He is a former Fulbright Fellow and has been Visiting Professor at the University of Alicante in Spain, the Université Josef Fourier in France and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.

He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from UCLA in 1997 and was a post-doctoral fellow at University College Dublin, Ireland, in the Department of Chemistry. He has given more than 260 invited talks and published more than 280 papers. He is also an artist, exploring language and human/technology cohabitation.
He has co-founded two companies, Innovalight and Piñon Technologies, and received various honors including the 2012 Professional Progress Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and election to Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Biography

Joana Matos Dias has a BSc in Computers Engineering (University of Coimbra, 1996), an MSc in Operations Research (University of Lisbon, 2000), an MSc in Quantitative Finance (University of London, 2011), a Ph.D. and Habilitation in Management Science (University of Coimbra, 2006, 2017). She is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, where she has been responsible for several curricular units like informatics, logistics, operations research, modeling in management, simulation. She is also a researcher at Inesc-Coimbra. Her main research interest is decision making models and algorithms in general, and operations research applied to health problems, combinatorial optimization, multiobjective optimization, in particular. She is the author or co-author of two books and more than 90 papers in refereed international journals, conference proceedings and book chapters.

Biography

João Paulo is an Invited Assistant Professor and Assistant Researcher at HASLab – INESC TEC and the University of Minho. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2015 and is currently working on storage and database systems, data management, and data privacy.

He has several publications in top journals and international conferences (ACM Computing Surveys, ACM Transactions on Storage, Eurosys, SRDS). Currently, he is coordinating INESC TEC’s activities on the BigHPC project, while being the coordinator of the PAStor project and the “Efficient and Secure Data Management for HPC and Cloud Computing” CENTRA project. Also, he has been involved in the PASTRAMY and RED national projects, and in the FP7 CoherentPaaS and H2020 SafeCloud European projects.

Biography

Dr. Mohan has extensive experience in the field of radiation oncology physics including numerous pioneering contributions. Recently, his activities have been concentrated on various physical, clinical and biological aspects of proton and light-ion therapy. Dr. Mohan is the Co-Principal Investigator (along with Dr. Thomas Delaney of Massachusetts General Hospital) of a Program Project grant entitled “Improving the Clinical Effectiveness and Understanding of the Biophysical Basis of Proton Therapy” from the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Mohan will be leading the entire project and oversee the research progress in the coordination of the research team in Portugal.
