Short Bio
Mário Alberto Vieira is a Mechanical Engineer and a PhD from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. Mário has been gathering expertise on offshore renewable energy, both at the experimental (supported operations at the Pico wave power plant) and numerical simulation (produced structural simulations of the Wello device and other offshore wind platforms) levels. During his PhD, Mário produced research on the economic viability of implementing monitoring systems on the support structures of offshore wind, having built several techno-economic models to characterize the life-cycle costs of offshore wind. He is currently an Energy Consultant at CoLAB +ATLANTIC in the energy sub-domain, working on the dynamization of the Portuguese offshore test sites and on the improvement of maintenance planning for offshore renewables.
Work description
- Development of the architecture of a decision tool for the planning of maintenance procedures of floating offshore wind farms;
- Development of a state-of-art routine for the acquisition and processing, using deep learning, of satellite imagery of offshore wind farms.
Expectactions about the Short-term Research Internship
- Generate a bridge for collaboration between +ATLANTIC and the UT Austin, specifically with Professor Dragan Djurdjanovic and his research group, on the improvement of maintenance planning;
- Develop a state-of-art tool for the evaluation of useful interactions between earth-space systems, specifically between satellite data and offshore wind farms.
