The 2024 Call for Exploratory Projects has an overall available budget of € 400,000and includes three of the Program’s core areas: Advanced Computing, Space-Earth Interactions, and Nanotechnologies. Proposals in Clean Energy can also be submitted, when related to the previous areas. Submissions are accepted until January 22, 2025.
The UT Austin Portugal Program is preparing to extend its portfolio of scientific projects with the launch of a new call for exploratory projects with 400,000 euros in funding. With the aim of building bridges between the Portuguese and UT Austin’s research ecosystem, the initiative focuses on three of the Program’s main scientific areas: Advanced Computing, Space-Earth Interactions, and Nanotechnologies. There is also room for proposals in Clean Energy, when duly included in the Program’s core scientific areas.
It is hoped that funded applications will stimulate and promote the international competitiveness of Portuguese science, with projects representing high-risk/high-reward researchThe composition of an eligible consortium can be consulted on the Call page , as well as more information on selection criteria or budgets allocable to Portuguese and US teams. Since 2018, the UT Austin Portugal Program has funded 35 ERPs, with some of the success stories available here.
This initiative is, in fact, one of the hallmarks of the UT Austin Portugal Program, with several projects continuing after the exploratory phase leveraging additional funding through and beyond the Program “The ERPs provide seed funding for Portuguese research teams to engage with counterparts at UT Austin on themes that can advance scientific knowledge and lead to breakthrough solutions. Our projects are selected by independent international panels and many have been awarded additional grants, which demonstrates their excellence.”, says Andreia Passos, Executive Director of the UT Austin Portugal Program.
