The Program will last for four months and the applications can be submitted in two phases – until 3 July (1st phase) and until 24 July (2nd phase) to the email leadership@utaustinportugal.org. The UT Austin Portugal Program, which is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), is one of the three international partnerships that the Portuguese Government renewed until 2023 with the University of Texas in Austin.
The advanced training program, which requires a full-time participation, will be held at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) in the USA. TACC is considered one of the more advanced supercomputing centers in the world. The Center has the mission to enable its researchers to have an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, thus discovering and exploring advanced computing technologies that have a significant impact on science and society.
To the researchers selected to work at TACC, a mobility grant will be funded in order to cover the expenditure related to their accommodation in the USA up to four months.
Depending on the phase selected by the candidates for the submission of their application, the selected ones can attend the program in different moments. The candidates that will be selected for the first phase (until 3 July) will have the opportunity to work at the Texas Advanced Computing Center from August to December 2018. On the other hand, the applications submitted until 24 July are related to a residence period in the USA that can be made from January to May 2019, from May to August 2019 or from August to December 2019.
The participants will be given the status of visiting researcher, having full access to all human and physical resources of the Texas Advanced Computing Center in Austin, including classes, participation in the development of systems, among others. They will also have the opportunity to gain experience in emerging areas of scientific computing platforms.

The partnership with TACC allows us to speed up the training of our researchers, both in ICT and in application domains, taking advantage of a center that is a world’s reference”, explains Rui Oliveira, Director of the Advanced Computing Area of the UT Austin Portugal Program and Professor at the University of Minho.
Who can apply for the training program in Advanced Computing?
– Portuguese or foreign citizens with permanent residence in Portugal;
– Individuals affiliated to Portuguese education institutions, its institutes and research and development units, with solid experience in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT);
– Candidates with a Master or a PhD degree at the time of their application.

What are the evaluation and selection criteria and the notification process?
The eligible applications will be assessed based on the curriculum and personal motivation. The assessment of the applications will be carried out by academic experts, and the directors of this area of the Program will be responsible for the final decision.
