Minister of Education, Science and Innovation
Fernando Alexandre was born in 1972. He holds an undergraduate and a master’s degree in Economics from Coimbra University and a PhD in Economics from the University of London, Birkbeck College, UK, 2003. He is Associate Professor with tenure at Minho University. He was Deputy Rector of Minho University, Chair of the School of Economics and Management and head of the Economics department. He was Vice-Chairman of the Economic and Social Council. He was a consultant for the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation. He is a researcher and has written or coordinated eight books on the Portuguese economy and papers published in international scientific journals. He has been a consultant for several public and private entities, such as the European Commission and the Portuguese Government. He was Deputy Minister of Home Affairs from 2011 to 2015. Fernando Alexandre regularly collaborates with the media.
